about

Hush, My Restless Soul was Carla Gover's debut album. She has since become an accomplished singer-songwriter, about whom The Old-Time Herald says, “[her] music contains the best elements of traditional Appalachian Music, including purity, intensity, integrity, and vivid imagery.” Read more about her at www.carlagover.com

Carla Gover was born in Whitesburg, Kentucky, in the central
Appalachian Mountains. In the music she writes and performs, she
pays tribute to the themes of home, family and independence, which
are central to the mountain culture. From the time she was a young girl, Carla absorbed traditional mountain ways from her grandmother, Ollie Gilbert Hudson. She learned how to use herbs and native plants for medicinal purposes, a knowledge she now passes on to others.

As a student at the University of Kentucky, Carla majored in
Appalachian Studies. As she met and played with other musicians, she
began to write songs that were rooted in the musical traditions of the
mountains where she had grown up. Through her music, Carla carries on the region's rich musical heritage. "I was taught that whatever you do with your life, you sjould help other people, bring joy to them and to yourself. There is nothing I love doing more than playing music."

She is a first-place winner of Merlefest's Chris Austin Songwriting Contest as well as the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Award.
