Rich and the Po’ Folk are an old-time string band from Letcher County, Kentucky.

Fiddler and mandolinist Rich Kirby, originally from Kentucky, has lived in Scott County, Virginia for thirty years and has performed across the region and nationally.

Prize-winning banjoist John Haywood, from Floyd County, Kentucky, brings a deep store of songs, tunings, and techniques learned from Kentucky banjo legend George Gibson. Haywood is also a visual artist who work is featured on the CD's cover.

Guitarist Brett Ratliff hails from Van Lear, Kentucky; while he plays guitar on this recording, he is also an accomplished banjoist and a veteran of several bands. His solo June Appal release "Cold Icy Mountain" is available via the appalshop.org webstore.

Bassist Nate Polly, a native of Letcher County and retired railroad worker, took up old-time music after playing for years with Kentucky bluegrass bands. In 2018 June Appal released Polly's first solo recording "Headed Back." It is available on LP and CD via the appalshop.org webstore.
