It’ll Pass By: On the other hand, it probably isn’t a good idea to dine on a strict diet of gnawed bones. I wrote this song on the eve of the Presidential elections in November, 2020. The inspiration came from a quote from Walt Whitman. By then, he was the Great Grey Poet, living in Camden, NJ. His health was just beginning to fade, and one of his biographers, noting this, and about to take his leave, wished Whitman would be feeling better soon. Walt replied; “It is clouded now, possibly, it’ll pass by”. Whitman’s ‘possibly” sounded like an “as if” to me, and felt right as the country held its breath.
